normal life, sort of

Hi Reader,

Welcome! Please, come in. Make yourself comfortable. On the table, I've put a pint glass with bugleweed and butterweed blooms. They'll take over your garden if you don't get them out—especially the butterweed. But they're cheery for all that.

As the Defy the Gods Kickstarter continues, life here has returned to normal. Sort of. There's a rhythm. I'm posting to social media every day about Defy the Gods, which is its own kind of discipline/fun. I get to share details from the amazing art (like the attached).

Other folks are talking up Defy the Gods too:

  • Hessan Yongdi goes in-depth about it on TTRPG Talk.
  • I had a wonderful interview with Arwen Kathke on Cardboard Time. We dug into the themes of the game and what we as queer people get out of TTRPGs.
  • I ran a world-building session with Tony Vasinda, Sarah Frank, and Richard Ruane of Plus One Exp—lovely people. We made adventurers and the World Forces, including an unhinged Pantheon and City, and we played out an initial World Scene as the City's ruling council. Our adventure continues May 14th, with two more sessions after that.

More in the pipeline! I'll tell you all about it when it drops.

Basically, I'm in a sword & sorcery state of mind all the time. Part of my brain has moved to ancient Sumer, and I'm here for it. It's just normal now.

Cheers,
Chrys

P.S. Defy the Gods' sister project, Wandering Blades, is also crowdfunding. If you like wuxia swordplay and melodrama, you'll love this game.

P.P.S. Origins is coming up fast! Hope to see you there!

P.P.P.S. In the unlikely event that you haven't backed Defy the Gods yet, there's still time! :)

Hi Reader, Welcome! Please, come in. On the table, I have a bowl of kiwis—the indie game designer of fruits. They're hard to peel, but I swear it’s worth it. (If you’re into OSR, just beast it and bite right through the fuzzy skin.) I know this talented up-and-coming game designer named Faye Weaver. Faye is a Horizons Fellow this year, like I was last year. And she’s been getting frustrated about, well, the crickets. I think everyone who puts a game out there feels this way sometimes, so I...

Hi Reader, Welcome! Please, come in, out of that snow. My it's cold out there—winter is biting down. But it's cozy in here. Have some hot cocoa. I made it with warm milk this time. Did you read the Rascal article about Yazeba's Bed & Breakfast? It's the kind of cautionary tale that keeps me up at night. If you don't have a Rascal subscription, do get one. But for now, here's my best sum-up: Possum Creek Games, led by Jay Dragon, made some big promises to the writers and artists who helped...

Hi Reader, Welcome! Please, come in, sit down. I'll take your coat. No flowers on the table yet, although the weather keeps trying to sucker them into popping up. What a year already. I don't know about you, but I'm white-knuckling it for the next 10 months before the midterm elections. Then—if I haven't already been shipped off to fight in the Davis Strait—I plan to vote for every aspiring Senator, Congressperson, school board member or dogcatcher who'll stand up to the White House. All I...
