Hi Reader, Welcome! Please, come in. Make yourself comfortable. On the table, we have peonies and sheet cake. I'm celebrating (re)launching the Defy the Gods Kickstarter! Sorry I already ate half the cake. I lost control at 2 a.m. after I uploaded the last assets to the Kickstarter campaign. (If you're sick of hearing about Defy the Gods—or you're just mad about the cake—click here. I haven't tried it before, but my email service should take you off the list.) To make it up to you about the cake, I've posted a new video for Defy the Gods. You can see it on https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hecticelectron/defy-the-gods-rpg. Swoon to the amazing art and Yuri's voiceover! See how much better I've gotten with After Effects! (and how much better I need to get!) It's flawed, sometimes crudely made, and beautiful. The eagle-eyed will also notice this Kickstarter has a reasonable funding goal—$20K—and no duplicate pledge tiers! God willing, I can make it through the campaign without any similar rookie mistakes. But enough about me! If we hit the funding level in the first two days, and you pledge at a physical-book tier, you'll get a free Defy the Gods patch! Put it on your trucker cap, jeans jacket or backpack, and you'll turn heads and topple crowns in one fell swoop. And the stretch goals! So far, Kevin Kulp, Rae Nedjadi, Sebastian Yue and Superdillin have all agreed to contribute stuff. Extra playbooks, adventure seeds, and creatures. I want to work with all these people so badly. Let's make it happen! On this sleep-deprived Tuesday, I'm cautiously optimistic that, a month from now, I'll be saddled with the delightful task of having to put Defy the Gods in a book you can read and play. Plunk that on my to-do list by clicking here and backing the game! Cheers, P.S. It's all been leading up to this. Click here to see the brand-spanking-new video and back the Kickstarter. P.P.S. At least it was just virtual cake. |

Hi Reader, Welcome! Please, come in, have a seat. The snow is finally starting to melt around here. On the table, we have a tin of shortbread cookies, and in the kitchen, your choice of tea, coffee or hot cocoa. So hey, a few weeks ago I got a little preachy about promises and contracts. Although I wasn’t talking mainly about Jay Dragon, I did imply she'd done some things, or failed to, based on conclusions I drew from the Rascal article I mentioned. I was too hasty. The Rascal piece was more...
Hi Reader, Welcome! Please, come in. On the table, I have a bowl of kiwis—the indie game designer of fruits. They're hard to peel, but I swear it’s worth it. (If you’re into OSR, just beast it and bite right through the fuzzy skin.) I know this talented up-and-coming game designer named Faye Weaver. Faye is a Horizons Fellow this year, like I was last year. And she’s been getting frustrated about, well, the crickets. I think everyone who puts a game out there feels this way sometimes, so I...
Hi Reader, Welcome! Please, come in, out of that snow. My it's cold out there—winter is biting down. But it's cozy in here. Have some hot cocoa. I made it with warm milk this time. Did you read the Rascal article about Yazeba's Bed & Breakfast? It's the kind of cautionary tale that keeps me up at night. If you don't have a Rascal subscription, do get one. But for now, here's my best sum-up: Possum Creek Games, led by Jay Dragon, made some big promises to the writers and artists who helped...
