Defy the Gods is alive!

Hi Reader,

It's good to see you again. Please, sit down—let me move these stacks of paper. And these. I'll put them—somewhere. On the sofa.

As you can see, this place has been a hive of activity since the Kickstarter launched on Tuesday. I meant to get together with you before now, but there's just been so much to do.

Oh hey, didn't I tell you? The Kickstarter is live! If you haven't already, please go check it out—including all the art I'm showing off there.

Yesterday, Jay Dragon released a Patreon post warning about the complexity of large projects—saying, "Heed my warning wary travelers, and beware the allure of the big game. It will envelop you and there will be nothing left." It's so true. I identify with what Jay says...and also with the impulse that led Jay to make big games anyway. I'm glad it's not just me.

As Cat Tobin, my Horizons mentor, wryly told me today, "You're living the dream." Not to mention living up to the "Hectic" in my brand name!

But enough about me. On Wednesday, I revealed the cover art for the special edition of Defy the Gods, and I wanted to make sure you saw the mockup. Isn't it beautiful? The whole game in one image—an embrace of sword and sorcery in the midst of destruction. Thalie has such a sense for these characters.

Now go tell your friends about the Kickstarter. Tell your enemies!

Cheers,
Chrys

Hi Reader, Welcome! Please, come in. Have some fizzy water. The irises are blooming, and M put some in a silver pitcher. So much else is blooming, too, but we'll let them grow. It's taken me a while to do game night because I'm recovering from surgery. This has meant enforced lying around, and that's a great opportunity to just soak it all in. I recently listened to Quinns Smith's interview of Jeremy Strandberg, author of Stonetop. Stonetop's Dungeon World-based mechanics don't exactly sing...

Hi Reader, Welcome! Please, come in. Isn't it beautiful out? Let's sit on the back porch today with some fizzy water and lol at all the dandelions. They get so tall when they’re ready to let go. I got some great games recently in the mail: Zhenya's Wonder Tales by Jason Morningstar and Last Train to Bremen by Caro Asercion. Slavic folk tales, cozy tragedy, liar's dice and a deal with the Devil! This is my favorite part of crowdfunding campaigns—when a little box of magic arrives at your door....

The gold foil-covered special edition of Defy the Gods, with two adventurers embracing

Hi Reader, Welcome! The daffodils are blooming in the front yard. They look good in this metal pitcher, don't you think? Defy the Gods is at the distributor's warehouse, at Plus One Exp in Philadelphia. I had a great talk with Tony last week, sorting out how distribution is going to work. They're a well organized team—they got this. Plus One Exp also brought a couple display copies of Defy the Gods to PAX East last weekend. Maybe I didn't print enough of the special edition! Tony said people...
