Hi Reader, It's good to see you again. Please, sit down—let me move these stacks of paper. And these. I'll put them—somewhere. On the sofa. As you can see, this place has been a hive of activity since the Kickstarter launched on Tuesday. I meant to get together with you before now, but there's just been so much to do. Oh hey, didn't I tell you? The Kickstarter is live! If you haven't already, please go check it out—including all the art I'm showing off there. Yesterday, Jay Dragon released a Patreon post warning about the complexity of large projects—saying, "Heed my warning wary travelers, and beware the allure of the big game. It will envelop you and there will be nothing left." It's so true. I identify with what Jay says...and also with the impulse that led Jay to make big games anyway. I'm glad it's not just me. As Cat Tobin, my Horizons mentor, wryly told me today, "You're living the dream." Not to mention living up to the "Hectic" in my brand name! But enough about me. On Wednesday, I revealed the cover art for the special edition of Defy the Gods, and I wanted to make sure you saw the mockup. Isn't it beautiful? The whole game in one image—an embrace of sword and sorcery in the midst of destruction. Thalie has such a sense for these characters. Now go tell your friends about the Kickstarter. Tell your enemies! Cheers, |

Hi Reader, Welcome! Please, come in. On the table, I have a bowl of kiwis—the indie game designer of fruits. They're hard to peel, but I swear it’s worth it. (If you’re into OSR, just beast it and bite right through the fuzzy skin.) I know this talented up-and-coming game designer named Faye Weaver. Faye is a Horizons Fellow this year, like I was last year. And she’s been getting frustrated about, well, the crickets. I think everyone who puts a game out there feels this way sometimes, so I...
Hi Reader, Welcome! Please, come in, out of that snow. My it's cold out there—winter is biting down. But it's cozy in here. Have some hot cocoa. I made it with warm milk this time. Did you read the Rascal article about Yazeba's Bed & Breakfast? It's the kind of cautionary tale that keeps me up at night. If you don't have a Rascal subscription, do get one. But for now, here's my best sum-up: Possum Creek Games, led by Jay Dragon, made some big promises to the writers and artists who helped...
Hi Reader, Welcome! Please, come in, sit down. I'll take your coat. No flowers on the table yet, although the weather keeps trying to sucker them into popping up. What a year already. I don't know about you, but I'm white-knuckling it for the next 10 months before the midterm elections. Then—if I haven't already been shipped off to fight in the Davis Strait—I plan to vote for every aspiring Senator, Congressperson, school board member or dogcatcher who'll stand up to the White House. All I...
