Hi Reader, Welcome! Please come in. It's rainy and blowy outside, and someone said we could get snow. But it's toasty in here. On the table, we have a pile of decorative gourds. I marked numbers on them with a Sharpie so you can roll them like dice. After months of frenzied work on Defy the Gods, I'm suddenly left with nothing to do. The text is complete, the book is laid out. We're waiting on the index and the last four pieces of art—out of 75! Sometime in the next 10 days, we'll submit the book to the printer. And some small, unfamiliar thing in me says it’s past time to pick up my old practices again. Weed the yard, exercise, and get back in touch with old friends. Let Me Tell You About ItIt's been an exciting time since I last sent you anything. Here's just a little of the amazing new art we've commissioned: It's gonna be such a beautiful book. I can't wait for you to see it. To that end, I'm raising the cover price. The price of RPGs has gone up steeply since a year ago, and the book is longer than I expected—over 300 pages!—with a lot more art. It'll include two chapters that we got as stretch goals: the guide to fantasy ancient Sumer and Ryan Khan's supper recipe. They felt important enough to the overall experience to include them in the book. For the GM, the book has scene ideas for several places your adventurers may go and trouble they may get into. All of which is to say—the book will be 50% more expensive than the Kickstarter price. if you want to get it at a steep discount, head to the pre-order page! In Other News: RaccoonsI’m startled to find that, if I want the new Raccoon Sky Pirates to be ready for Christmas season 2026—and I do—I need to plan the Kickstarter now. In fact, I'm already behind. It's been fun to work on prototypes for the new game. I have this idea that all the components should look like they were stolen from somewhere else—magazines, other games—and thrown in the box. But it's all coming up so soon! Things are never gonna calm down. Not if I’m lucky. Guess I’d better get back to all those things I was putting off. Talk to you soon! May your gourd ever roll high, |

Hi Reader, Welcome! Please, come in, have a seat. The snow is finally starting to melt around here. On the table, we have a tin of shortbread cookies, and in the kitchen, your choice of tea, coffee or hot cocoa. So hey, a few weeks ago I got a little preachy about promises and contracts. Although I wasn’t talking mainly about Jay Dragon, I did imply she'd done some things, or failed to, based on conclusions I drew from the Rascal article I mentioned. I was too hasty. The Rascal piece was more...
Hi Reader, Welcome! Please, come in. On the table, I have a bowl of kiwis—the indie game designer of fruits. They're hard to peel, but I swear it’s worth it. (If you’re into OSR, just beast it and bite right through the fuzzy skin.) I know this talented up-and-coming game designer named Faye Weaver. Faye is a Horizons Fellow this year, like I was last year. And she’s been getting frustrated about, well, the crickets. I think everyone who puts a game out there feels this way sometimes, so I...
Hi Reader, Welcome! Please, come in, out of that snow. My it's cold out there—winter is biting down. But it's cozy in here. Have some hot cocoa. I made it with warm milk this time. Did you read the Rascal article about Yazeba's Bed & Breakfast? It's the kind of cautionary tale that keeps me up at night. If you don't have a Rascal subscription, do get one. But for now, here's my best sum-up: Possum Creek Games, led by Jay Dragon, made some big promises to the writers and artists who helped...
